MDOT hearing to explain 61 work

NATCHEZ &045; Citizens can voice concerns about proposed road improvements for U.S. 61 on D’Evereaux Drive today.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation will have an open forum about potential improvements like a new interchange that’s still in its developing stages. The public forum will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today in the St. Louis/Memphis Room of the Natchez Convention Center.

&uot;We have a conjunction issue there,&uot; MDOT Executive Director Larry &uot;Butch&uot; Brown said. &uot;We need to address how people maneuver in that section.&uot;

The meeting will give citizens an opportunity to address concerns and propose suggestions to MDOT representatives.

Location, design, right-of-way and environmental issues will be on the meeting’s agenda.

Brown said U.S. 61 is one of the most important highways in Mississippi and said he wants to engage the public about potential changes.

Brown said the full MDOT staff will be present for the meeting, which includes representatives from the Right-of Way, Planning and Environmental divisions.
