Jena’s ground game chews up Block; Rayville drowns Vidalia

JONESVILLE, La. &045; Led by quarterback Tory Ray and running back Carwyn Jones, Jena’s offense rolled up well over 350 yards of total offense as the Giants cruised to an easy 35-12 win over the Bears Friday night.

Jena’s defense was just as dominating as its offense, holding Block (0-3) to 189 yards of total offense &045; all on the ground &045; and forced six turnovers.

&uot;We have fumbled the ball 24 times in three games and lost 15 or 16 of them,&uot; Bears head coach Scott Green said. &uot;Every time we get a drive going.

&uot;They were up 21-6 and we return the kick to their 20 and fumbled on the first play.&uot;

Ray threw for 132 yards and completed eight of 12 passes, including a 57-yard touchdown pass to Darius Bigby in the first quarter. Jones had just over 100 yards rushing and a pair of touchdown runs as Jena (2-1) took a commanding 28-6 halftime lead.

&uot;Our motivation and enthusiasm are about at zero,&uot; Green said.

Block’s Johnnie Lee also had over 100 yards rushing and scored both of the Bears’ touchdowns &045; a 28-yard run in the second quarter and a 46-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.

NEWELLTON, La. &045; The Trojans scored the first couple of times they touched the ball and rolled out quickly to a big lead over the over-matched Bears in non-district action.

The Trojans (3-0) got on the board first when Montario Tennessee scored from 20 yards out for a 7-0 lead. They got the ball back and scored again when fullback Montago Tennessee ran in from 43 yards out for a 14-0 with 6:05 left in the first.

The Trojans held the Bears to a punt and punched it in on their next possession when Montario Tennessee got in from 3 yards out with 11:51 left for a 20-0 lead. Dra’Carl Walker scored later on a 48-yard run at the 7:11 mark for a 27-0 lead.

The Trojans have allowed only six points through three games this season.

Top-ranked Lumberton rumbles by punchless Franklin County, 26-0

MEADVILLE &045; It was not a pretty night in Meadville for the Franklin County Bulldogs. As the Lumberton Panthers beat the Franklin County Bulldogs 26-0.

In the second quarter with 6:03 left, Lumberton’s Terry Grant scored on a 54-yard touchdown run that gave the Panthers a 6-0 lead.

Later in the second quarter with 1:48 leftf, quarterback Jamiah Holder ran past the Bulldogs 54 yards for a score for a 14-0 lead.

The Panthers were not done yet in the first half as quarterback Jamiah Holder connected with Rashod Henery for a 33-yard pass with 28 seconds left to put Lumberton was up on the Bulldogs 20-0 going into the half.

Franklin County came out with a spark in the second half it just wasn’t enough to get the win.
