Medicaid, VA
Louisiana and Mississippi have both relaxed rules on Medicaid and veterans benefits.
That means if you are a Louisiana resident on Medicaid or veterans medical benefits, you can receive care in Mississippi, and vice versa.
WIC
WIC rules have also been lifted for both states, so residents can receive those benefits for children in either state.
Prescriptions
Anyone who needs medicine replacement who is not staying at a shelter can go to the Steckler Center in Natchez for help refilling prescriptions.
They need proof of residence as well as a bottle or prescription.
Also, Hurricane Katrina evacuees who can’t pay for their prescriptions will still be able to get their medication, the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy announced Friday.
Evacuees can go to any Wal-Mart, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreen’s or Kroger’s pharmacy to have their prescriptions filled.
Nurses and doctors who have authority to write prescriptions and are treating patients in special needs shelters can send their patients’ prescriptions to these pharmacies to be filled.
