Developer willing to work with Foundation

NATCHEZ &045; Condo developer Larry Brown said he is interested in a design compromise suggested by the Historic Natchez Foundation.
Brown, speaking during a board of aldermen meeting Monday, Brown said he was willing to have his architect sit down with three architects hired by the Foundation to look at ways to create a more pleasing design.
Foundation director Ron Miller had made that suggestion on Sunday.
&uot;We’re committed to economic development in this community,&uot; Brown said. &uot;We are flexible for compromise and working toward a more esthetically pleasing (design). There are a lot of people who want to see development. We’d like to know if we’re up against development versus development, or if it’s development versus green space. We want to give you guys and the city something you can be proud of.&uot;
The preservation commission has not yet issued a decision on the proposed condo design, which many people have said is too large and too tall for the bluff.
Others have expressed displeasure with the design itself, saying it does not fit in with the buildings around it.
Last week, the commission asked developers Larry Brown and Ed Worley to come up with a design that better fits the city’s preservation ordinance.
But Mayor Phillip West on Monday called the preservation commission’s meeting last week &uot;a biased process where the rules were changed to help facilitate, in my opinion, a vilification and lynching of persons who love Natchez and want to continue to invest in our future.&uot;
