Hounds drop hammer on Tallulah; Jefferson hangs on for 8-0 win

TALLULAH, La. &045; Jody Cottongin and Huston Eliser each ran for over 100 yards and combined for four rushing touchdowns as the Huntington Hounds rolled to a 47-16 win over Tallulah Academy in a District 7-A game.

Cottongin scored the first two touchdowns for Huntington (4-1, 2-0) on runs of 45 and 29 yards. He also had two other touchdowns &045; a 39-yard interception return in the second quarter and a 67-yard reception from Eliser in the third quarter.

Eliser had touchdown runs of 14 yards in the first quarter and 17 yards in the second quarter. Ricky Dunbar had a 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Tallulah (0-5, 0-2) scored its 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Mangham 46, Vidalia 6

MANGHAM, La. &045; Denarrio Smith had three touchdown runs and Adam Romero had a touchdown pass and touchdown run as the Dragons cruised to a big win over the Vikings.

Smith had a 33-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, a 30-yard scoring run in the second quarter and an 11-yard scoring run in the third quarter.

Romero threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jared Eley in the first quarter and scored on a 5-yard run in the second quarter as Mangham (2-2) built a 30-6 halftime lead.

Vidalia (2-2) got its only points with 4:40 to go in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Jordan Brewer.

Mangham racked up 300 yards of total offense and held Vidalia to 121 total yards.

Jefferson County 8, Bailey 0

FAYETTE- It was a good night for the Jefferson County Tigers Friday Night. After getting beat by Natchez 49-8 last week. Jefferson County was looking for a little redemption and they found it back home. Winning there first district game against Bailey 8-0.

In the 2nd quarter, Jefferson County’s Vernon Smith ran a 4 yards into the end zone for the touchdown. On the 2 point conversion, Jimmie Shorter ran in the 2 point conversion which would leave Jefferson County leading 8-0 going into the half.

In the second half it was anybody’s ball game from then on both teams had chances to score. Penalty after Penalty demolished those chances for both teams. At the end of the night, Jefferson County would go on and win there first district game of the season 8-0.

Tensas 48, Franklin 8

ST. JOSEPH, La. &045; Tensas Academy finally found a groove on the offensive end, and the Chiefs scored every time they touched the ball in the first half with a 35-0 lead at half.

From there, the Chiefs held on. The plan was to work on the passing game, but the Chiefs rung up 418 yards rushing and didn’t have to break away.

Michael McWilliams had 155 yards on eight carries.

&uot;This was our first real successful offensive output of the season,&uot; Tensas head coach Chris Jacobs said. &uot;We had as many rushing yards as we’ve had on the season. Mike didn’t even start, but he came in and had some big runs. We just pounded it, had some big runs and got after them.&uot;

The Chiefs scored first when Will Ratcliff ran in from 4 yards out at the 6:30 mark. McWilliams scored the next one on a 13-yard run just before the quarter was up.

On Franklin’s next possession, McWilliams picked off a Caleb Haring pass and returned it 41 yards for a score.

The Cougars got inside the 20 just before half, but the drive ended when John David Guthrie recovered a fumble. On the next play McWilliams ran 81 yards inside the 10 to set up Ratcliff’s 5-yard run for a score.
