MHSAA: South Pike runs over Franklin County; Wilkinson gets first win

MEADVILLE &045; It was not a good night at all for the Bulldogs of Franklin County as the they got beat by South Pike, 44-0.

&uot;We’re at a wall right now&uot; Franklin head coach Grady McCluskey said.

In the first quarter, South Pike’s Quarterback Kelsey Island ran a 3- yard quarterback keeper on first and goal to get the first score of the night.

Later in the quarter, Franklin was in a fourth-and-13 situation when punter Dan Griffin was sacked in the end zone due for an 8-0 South Pike lead.

Early in the second quarter, Franklin County fumbled the ball and South Pike’s Chirs Car picked it up

and ran into the end zone for the touchdown for 14-0 lead

Later on in the second quarter oFranklin County fumbled again, and South Pike’s Pat Webber picked up the fumble and ran in for another touchdown for a 20-0 South Pike lead.

Hinds AHS 34, Jefferson County 12

UTICA &045; Albert Williams had three touchdown runs, all in the first half and Hinds Agricultural High School’s defense held Jefferson County’s high-powered offense in check as the Bulldogs defeated the Tigers.

Hinds AHS (5-0) got off to a slow start defensively, giving up Jimmie Shorter’s 15-yard scoring run and Isaac Wallace’s 50-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Kemp in the first quarter.

After that, it was all Bulldogs, who scored 32 of its 34 points after Wallace’s long touchdown pass. Williams’ three touchdown runs were from inside 10 yards and he threw a touchdown pass in the third quarter.

Jefferson County (3-2) was held to under 150 yards of total offense and seven first downs by a tough Bulldog defense.

Wilkinson County 34, Amite County 14

LIBERTY &045; The Wildcats finally picked up their first win of the season, this one against a former Division 7-3A opponent, to go to 1-3 overall.
