Montgomery defeats Block

JONESVILLE, La. &8212; Montgomery&8217;s defense held Block wingback Johnnie Lee to under 100 yard rushing and got a big interception early in the game as the Tigers defeated the Bears 32-14 Friday night in a District 3-1A matchup.

On the game&8217;s first play from scrimmage, Matt Johnson&8217;s pass was intercepted by Derek Welch, who returned it 54 yards for a touchdown that changed the momentum of the game.

Montgomery (3-1, 5-3) scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter that put the game away.

Chad County, who was the game&8217;s leading rusher with 85 yards on 12 carries, scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 1-yard run. Cody Stroud&8217;s only completion of the game was big &8212; a 55-yard pass to Dominic Willis.

Block (1-3, 2-6) didn&8217;t score until the fourth quarter, as Lee scored on a 5-yard pass from Johnson and, after the Tigers scored on a 10-yard run by Terrance Washington, an 84-yard kickoff return.

Lee was held to just 80 yards rushing on 14 carries while A.J. Sharp led the Bears on the ground with 83 yards rushing.

Ferriday 64, Lake Providence 6

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. &8212; The Trojans (6-2, 2-0) moved another step closer to claiming the District 4-2A championship with a convincing win over the over-matched Panthers (0-2, 2-7).

Ferriday plays at Vidalia Friday night with the district title on the line.
