LIBERTY &8212; As bad as things went Saturday night in a loss to Centreville Academy, Adams Christian&8217;s Lady Rebels picked it back up Tuesday.

And for this early in the season, significant improvement is a good thing.

Adams used a strong third quarter to fend off a solid Amite School Center team for a 59-42 win in Liberty. Adams post player Mattie Geoghegan manned up on Amite post Brittany Carroll and held her to only three points, and the offense picked it back up.

&8220;Mattie did a real good job defending and rebounding,&8221; Adams head coach John Gray said. &8220;All of them played hard. We played a lot better all the way through. What was good was we controlled our fouls tonight. Brittany Gamberi did a super job of running the ball all night at point guard.

&8220;We just continue to get better. We just look like we&8217;re slow right now and a step off from where we need to be. The whole group is not as quick as I think we need to be. But they played so hard tonight.&8221;

Adams (3-1) led 26-19 at halftime but outscored Amite 19-9 in the third to take a commanding 45-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Ariana DeLaSalle and Katie Ann Swinny led Adams with 15 points apiece.

Centreville 56, Huntington 30

CENTREVILLE &8212; The Lady Tigers are off to a solid start this season, and they&8217;ve got a group that can score.

Brittany Boatner led the Lady Tigers with 12 points, while Shelly Vine had 10. The team didn&8217;t waste time with a 19-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 26-10 lead at halftime.

Grubby Harrell led Huntington (0-4) with seven.

Harrisonburg 60, Monticello 48

MONTICELLO, La. &8212; The Lady Bulldogs&8217; 19-7 lead at the end of the first quarter set the tone in this contest, and their 21-10 advantage in the third quarter sealed.

Jasmine Dunbar led Harrisonburg with 27 points.

McComb 55, Wilkinson County 49

MCCOMB &8212; McComb took a 19-7 lead after one, but Wilkinson County battled back to trim the deficit to 44-39 heading into the fourth quarter.

Toni Anthony led WCHS with 16 points, while Kim Griffin had 13.

Boys

Chamberlain-Hunt 71, WCCA 21

WOODVILLE &8212; No Joseph Porter at CHA, but the Wildcats can still fill it up. They jumped all over WCCA in the first half with a 15-6 lead after one and 16-4 advantage in the second to lead 31-10 at half.

Keldrick Scott led Chamberlain-Hunt with 17 points, while Trey Gaddy had 16. Eli Ashley and Tommy Johnson each had six to lead WCCA (0-1).

Huntington 69, Centerville 60

CENTREVILLE &8212; In their first game of the season, Huntington made a solid appearance with its new coach and new players with a win over the Tigers.

Brant Bradley led HHS with 15, Zack Brown had 13, Antonio Jordan had 12 and Ricky Dunbar had 10. D. Davis led Centreville with 23 points.

Huntington led 18-10 after one and 30-18 at halfh.

Amite 40, Adams Christian 38

LIBERTY &8212; Adams Christian led 27-26 heading into the fourth quarter before Amite rallied to get the two-point win in this low-scoring affair to open the season.

Timmy Foster led ACCS withi 15 points, while Matthew Marks had 11. Huggins led Amite with 19.

McComb 72, Wilkinson County 51

MCCOMB &8212; The Wildcats walked into a buzzsaw at McComb and trailed 31-5 at the end of the first quarter.

Corey Anthony led Wilkinson with 14 points.
