TYLERTOWN &8212; An opportunity to play in the Class 3A South State championship game wasn&8217;t on the line this time for Franklin County and Tylertown like it was last year when the Bulldogs defeated the Chiefs 28-21 in overtime.

And even though the Chiefs may have had revenge on their mind, they, as well as the Bulldogs, knew that plenty was at stake in their first meeting as Region 7-3A opponents Friday night.

With the No. 2 seed and a first-round playoff game in the Class 3A South State playoffs on the line, Franklin County scored two touchdowns in the final 8:09 to rally for a 20-14 win over Tylertown, beating the Chiefs on the road for the second straight year.

Franklin County finished the regular season at 6-3 but, more importantly, 5-1 in 7-3A while Tylertown fell to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in 7-3A.

Terry Jackson, who had 120 yards rushing, got Tylertown on the board early in the second quarter on a 44-yard touchdown run.

Franklin County tied it at 7-all on D.J. Shaw&8217;s 14-yard touchdown run just one minute into the third quarter. However, quarterback Adam Fayard&8217;s 1-yard scoring run with 10 seconds to go in that quarter gave the Chiefs a 14-7 lead.

The Bulldogs responded in the fourth quarter, just like they did in last year&8217;s playoff game against the Chiefs.

Jonte Marshall threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to tight end Marcus Tillman with 8:09 remaining in the game. Dane Hodges&8217; extra point tied the score at 14-14.

Then with just over a minute left in regulation, Shaw scored again, this time on a 5-yard run for the winning margin.

Marshall had an all-around solid performance with 172 yards of total offense &045; 104 passing yards and 68 rushing yards.

BOGUE CHITTO &8212; The Green Wave, for a change, were having to play the role of spoiler and keep the Bobcats from possibly getting the No. 4 seed out of Region 4-1A.

The Bobcats, however, had other ideas and used a strong running game that piled up 330 yards on an injury-riddled Green Wave defense and a 20-point second quarter to take the win.

Patrick McDonough threw for 149 yards, and Matthew Hall had 103 yards receiving and a touchdown to lead Cathedral (3-6, 2-6).

Corey Washington led Bogue Chitto (4-5, 4-4) with 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Seth Avant threw a touchdown pass and ran for another.

WOODVILLE &8212; Marcus O&8217;Neal had two touchdown runs in the first half to lead the Wildcats (3-6, 2-4) past the still-winless Trojans (0-8, 0-6) in the Region 7-3A and season finales for both teams.
