U.S. Military Deaths in Iraq at 3,628

As of Thursday, July 19, 2007, at least 3,628 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,975 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military’s numbers.

The AP count is 10 more than the Defense Department’s tally, last updated Thursday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 159 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 20; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Romania, South Korea, one death each.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

_ A soldier was killed Thursday by small-arms fire southwest of Baghdad.

_ Four soldiers were killed Wednesday by explosives in east Baghdad.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

_ Army Spc. Eric M. Holke, 31, Crestline, Calif.; died Sunday in Tallil of wounds suffered in a non-combat incident; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 160th Infantry, California Army National Guard, Fullerton, Calif.

_ Army Sgt. Nathan S. Barnes, 23, of American Fork, Utah; died Tuesday in Rushdi Mullah of wounds from small-arms fire; assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

_ Army Pfc. Ron J. Joshua Jr., 19, Austin, Texas; died Tuesday in Baghdad after an explosive detonated near his vehicle; assigned to the 401st Military Police Company, 92nd Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.

_ Army Pfc. Brandon K. Bobb, 20, Orlando, Fla.; died Tuesday in Baghdad after an explosive detonated near his vehicle; assigned to the 401st Military Police Company, 92nd Military Police Battalion, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas.
