NATCHEZ &8212;City Planner Andrew Smith is planning to form a citizen advisory committee to study how city ordinances should be modernized.

While Smith has said the team would focus primarily on planning &8212;

and development &8212; related ordinances, Mayor Phillip West said Wednesday he wants them to review all the city&8217;s ordinances to see what changes are needed.

&8220;After all, it&8217;s been since 1964,&8221; that such a major revamping of ordinances was last undertaken, West said.

Aldermen on Tuesday approved Smith&8217;s request for $5,000 to pay twoconsultants &8212; $2,500 each &8212; to work with the advisory council.

During the budgeting process Smith asked for $15,000 to revamp the city&8217;s entire comprehensive plan, but that request was denied.

Aldermen voted late last year to establish a citizen advisory committee to help recommend ordinance changes. But as of Wednesday, a specific timeline hadn&8217;t been established to get the committee in place or for the team to come back to the Board of Aldermen with a list of recommendations.

Also during Tuesday&8217;s meeting, aldermen:

4Voted to allow West to advertise for lease-purchasing a new vehicle for himself. West said after the meeting that he did not get a new vehicle at the start of his term in office.

4Voted to allow Building Inspector Paul Dawes to advertise for bids for demolition of the dilapidated band hall building behind the former Margaret Martin School.

4Voted to allow Smith to advertise for bids for cleaning up unkempt lots.

4Voted to give dispatchers a $100-per-month raise.
