MINDEN, La. &8212; These two teams have met twice before during the regular season, with each winning on their home court. But the last time they played each other was on Dec. 6.
This time a spot in the MPSA Class A South State Tournament girls&8217; championship game was on the line for the District 7 champion Lady Chiefs and the Lady Rebels.
The Lady Chiefs overcame some uncharacteristic offensive woes in the first half to defeat the Lady Rebels, the No. 2 seed out of District 8, to advance to the title game, where they will play District 8-A champion Claiborne Academy, their biggest non-district foe in recent years, today at 2:15 p.m. Claiborne defeated District 8 rival Glenbrook in the other semifinal game.
Things started off well for Tensas (27-4) as Aubrey McEacharn had three steals that contributed to three lay-ups for her and just like that the Lady Chiefs had a 6-0 lead.
From about midway through the first quarter to the end of the second quarter, Riverdale outscored Tensas 19-9. The Lady Chiefs scored only one point in the second quarter.
&8220;We had one outside shot and we were on the other end of the court playing defense,&8221; Bauerle said. &8220;We weren&8217;t rebounding. They scored 11 points (in the second quarter) and were still only up by four at halftime. We were lucky to still be in it.&8221;

The Rams lost a 13-9 lead after one when the Generals&8217; Ben Thames and John David Lettson each hit three 3-pointers for a 28-23 lead at half.
Newton County then held a 43-35 lead after three before the Rams (13-11) cut the deficit to 48-41 with two minutes left.
