Orleans, who died Thursday,
Jan. 17, 2006, at Baton Rouge
General Hospital, are incomplete
at this time and will be later
announced by Webb Funeral

NATCHEZ – Services for
Adolph Gaylor of Natchez, who
died Thursday, January 19,
2006, in Jackson, will be 11 a.m.
Wednesday at Milford Baptist
Church with the Rev. Eddie
Alsworth officiating.
Burial will be in the Pine Hill
Memorial Cemetery under the
direction of George F. West
Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9
p.m. Tuesday, with Masonic
services beginning at 7 p.m. and
10 a.m. until service time
Wednesday at the church.
Bro. Gaylor was born March
16, 1924, in Jefferson County, to
the late Samuel O. Gaylor and
Irene Gaylor. He accepted Christ
at an early age and was
baptized by the late Rev. A. M.
Drake and joined the Milford
Missionary Baptist Church in
1938. His membership and
faithful services were unbroken.
He served as a deacon, Sunday
School teacher, choir member,
former church treasurer, and
member of the M.B.P.F.B.
Society. He was a member of
the Milford Brotherhood Club
and the Deacons Progressive
Club. He was also a member of
the Clover Hill Masonic Lodge
#13.
Bro. Gaylor was educated in
the Adams County School
District. He was inducted into the
United States Army in 1944 and
served during World War II. After
being honorably discharged in
1946, he attended Alcorn
College.
Bro. Gaylor was also active in
community, civic, and
governmental organizations as
he was an active member of the
Natchez Business and Civic
League as well as the NAACP.
He was the first African
American appointed to the
Natchez-Adams County Port
Commission in 1976 and served
as the Port Commission’s
secretary for ten years. In 1964,
Bro. Gaylor established Gaylor’s
Auto Repair Service where he
served as a pillar of the business
community for over thirty-five
years.
He was united in holy
matrimony to Jessie Beatrice
Bland and to that union five
children were born. They were
married 58 years.
He was preceded in death by
his wife, Jessie, his daughter,
Patricia A. Gaylor Harvey, his
brothers, Samuel “Bo” Gaylor,
Gerod Gaylor, and his sisters,
Bernice Gaylor and Beatrice G.
Nesbitt.
He is survived by his sons,
Adolph “Don” Gaylor and wife,
Margaret, of Fairfield, Ala., Tylan
O. Gaylor of Byram, Tony R.
Gaylor and wife, Kristena, of
Jackson; daughter, Genoise G.
Washington and husband, Willie,
of Columbia, S. C.; sisters, Edna
Watkins and husband, W.J., of
Memphis, Tenn., Eloise Bennett
and husband, Leonard, of
Cleveland, Ohio, and Doris
Armstrong and husband, James,
of Goodlettsville, Tenn.;
brothers, Walter Gaylor of
Natchez and Lee A. Gaylor and
wife, Vivian, of Bellevue, Wash.;
aunt, Martha Gaylor of Natchez;
eight grandchildren, Malcolm
Harvey and wife, Haygar and
Marques Harvey, all of Atlanta,
Ga., Adrienne D, Gaylor of Silver
Spring, Md., Willie “Torry”
Washington, Gerard Washington
and wife, Cindy, Chad A.
Washington, and Kimberly
Washington, all of Columbia S.
C., and Samuel L. Gaylor of
Jackson; four great
grandchildren; son-in-law, Percy
Lee Harvey; sisters-in-law;
brothers-in-law, and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends who mourn his
death.
