NATCHEZ &8212; A couple suspected of using fake checks to purchase thousands of dollars worth of merchandise in several states was arrested in Natchez last week.

George and Sandra Albright made their last buy for approximately $1,400 at a local business.

Natchez police arrested them on March 1 after investigations turned up an expired driver&8217;s license and drug paraphernalia. From there officers obtained a search warrant for the couple&8217;s RV, investigator Gary Nations said.

Inside they found printers, fake IDs and materials used to make fake checks and IDs, a small amount of drugs and the merchandise purchased from a Natchez business.

&8220;This was a traveling crime wave,&8221; Nations said. &8220;This is big business for them and it&8217;s a really big arrest for us. We got them out of here before they did anymore damage.&8221;

The Albrights used fake checks with matching IDs to purchase everything from electronic equipment to jewelry. They either traded or resold the items for crack cocaine, Nations said. During police interviews the couple allegedly said they were using forgery to support a $500 a day cocaine habit between the two of them, Nations said.

Police also recovered receipts from stores in Baton Rouge, Gonzales and Plaquemine, La., for more than $1,000.

The couple had no permanent address, Nations said, but their last known address was in Baton Rouge.

Sandra Albright allegedly gave a false name when first arrested by NPD officers. She and her husband face one count each of felony uttering a forgery. Bond is set at $10,000 each. And both face potential charges from agencies in the other towns affected, Nations said. He is in the process of notifying those agencies of the arrest.
