FERRIDAY &8212; As a result of a recent 10-week program, citizens are launching the formation of a Citizen&8217;s Committee for the Improvement of Ferriday.

The committee, proposed by Ferriday Alderman Johnnie Brown, will meet for the first time at 6 p.m., Thursday at town hall. The group, mostly comprised of Ferriday Leadership Conference attendees, will meet to begin creating a scheme towards the goal of revitalization.

&8220;Some that went to the conference have asked me if they could continue their meetings on a regular basis,&8221; Brown said. &8220;What we are hoping to do is convene this ongoing committee.&8221;

Thursday&8217;s meeting, Brown said, will become tuned to revitalization efforts.

A Ferriday Revitalization Committee does exist, but focuses on different aspects of revitalization, Ferriday&8217;s Economic Development Director Teresa Dennis said.

&8220;Our focus is more on the architecture of buildings, the historic side and the development of a new town center,&8221; she said. &8220;There are things that both groups will probably work together on and when it&8217;s all said and done it will probably be the same people.&8221;

With the formation of a new committee, a mission statement explaining the vision of the team has emerged.

&8220;We are looking for ways to bring community development together creating businesses and jobs and bring about recreational opportunities to youth and adults,&8221; Brown said. &8220;We want to focus on these things while using creativity.&8221;

Thursday&8217;s meeting will focus on a vision, mission and strategy for progress. Creating new jobs, addressing housing needs and working together with other organizations and teams through sharing ideas for a common goal of progress are also among the list.
