VIDALIA &8212; Vidalia voters will get the chance to renew or eliminate the recreation tax Saturday.

Only four absentee ballots have been cast. Clerk of courts Clyde Ray Webber said he did
not expect a large turnout.
&8220;This is basically a renewal that has been surely needed in keeping up with existing facilities,&8221; Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland said. &8220;Hopefully with recreation&8217;s support we will expand. I strongly support expansion.&8221;
A summary of the proposition includes a &8220;10 year, 4 mills property tax renewal for improving, maintaining and operating the recreational facilities of consolidated recreation District No. 3.&8221;
The Concordia Parish Police Jury created the recreation district on May 28, 1958. The district was created for the purpose of &8220;owning and operating playgrounds and other facilities in the district and to initiate activities that would promote recreation relating to the general health and well being of youths.&8221;
