ASU student dies in car accident

LORMAN &8212; A one-vehicle accident claimed the life of an Alcorn State University soccer player Tuesday night, according to the university.
A press release issued by the sports information department stated that Angie Riggins, 19, of Roxie passed away in an accident just off campus late Tuesday night.
Claiborne County Coroner J.W. Mallett said Riggins died from impact.
&8220;She was a passenger in the car, and it had a collision with a building and then a utility pole,&8221; Mallett said.
&8220;The pole stopped the car. She was killed instantly. The driver survived.&8221;
According to The Clarion-Ledger, the driver and two other passengers fled the scene after the accident.
The two passengers were apprehended Wednesday, while the driver remains at large.
Riggins was a freshman at Alcorn, majoring in nutrition and dietetics.
She is survived by her parents, Otha and Maria Riggins of Roxie; her sister, Mirreah; and her uncle, Cornelius Riggins.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be released by the university later this week, and Alcorn plans to hold a memorial service for Riggins.
