FERRIDAY&8212; The Concordia Parish Library will start Archaeology Week early this year.
Louisiana officially celebrates Archaeology Week the first week in October but Director Amanda Taylor said she was only able to book her first guest for Thursday.
Pete Gregory will be presenting and signing his new book, &8220;The Work of Tribal Hands: Southeastern Indian Split Cane Basketry.&8221;
He also will present a slide presentation entitled: &8220;Archaeology of Larto Lake.&8221;
&8220;People should definitely come to this event,&8221; Taylor said. &8220;People are always interested in what was at Larto Lake before and how the people living around the lake lived back then.&8221;
According to a press release from Taylor, Gregory&8217;s fieldwork has been both archaeological and ethnographical in nature, with ethnic diversity and cultural continuity as major focuses of his research.
&8220;This work has involved Native Americans, Anglo-American and Louisiana French fishing communities, the Anglo, Creole, and African-American culture of the plantation regions, and the Anglo-Saxon culture of the upland South,&8221; Taylor stated.
The book signing starts at 6 p.m. followed by the slide show at 6:30 p.m., Taylor said.
Thursday Oct. 12 at 7 p.m., the library will put on a concert, featuring pianist Emile Pandolfi at the Concordia Bank in Vidalia, Taylor said.
