Ferriday &8212; Tuesday evening&8217;s womanless beauty pageant was entertaining, hilarious and just a little disturbing as Concordia Parish Sheriff&8217;s officers and city officials strutted their stuff to raise money for Relay for Life.
Over 200 people came to the Concordia Parish Community Center in Ferriday to watch their favorite &8220;lady&8221; compete for the crown and give their support to fight cancer.
Bea Byrnes said she drove from Baton Rouge to see her son, officer Kenny Wayne &8220;Bambi&8221; Byrnes compete.
&8220;This evening was so much fun and it&8217;s all for such a good cause,&8221; Byrnes said.
Buddy Hill from Vidalia said he came out to see some his friends make fools of themselves but he also had another reason for coming.
&8220;The main reason I came was for Relay for Life,&8221; Hill said.
&8220;My mother is a cancer survivor so I know how important and effective these events are.&8221;
While some of the contestants shopped for their own clothing, Billie&8217;s Formal Wear in Vidalia donated much of their evening attire.
Professional hairdresser Remi Loomis styled the men&8217;s wigs while Delena DeLaSalle and Somer Lance dolled up the men with make up and lipstick by Lacome and Clinique.
&8220;He (Johnny Loomis) competes in these events a lot actually,&8221; Remi said laughing.
&8220;This is his third time he&8217;s done it and I&8217;m beginning to get worried about him.&8221;
Among some of the contestants were former mayor Glen &8220;Gi Gi&8221; McGlothin, D.A.R.E. officer Bobby &8220;Serena&8221; Sheppard and Vidalia Mayor Hyram &8220;Pocahontas&8221; Copeland.
&8220;I tried to fake like I was sick but they came out to find me at my house and drug me out here,&8221; Copeland said. &8220;But I&8217;m glad I did it because it&8217;s for a great cause and I feel so lovely.&8221;
Judges picked the top three finalists based on three events: dancing, eveningwear and the question and answer competition.
&8220;Gi Gi&8221; McGlothin came in third place, officer Robert &8220;Penelope&8221; Pearson second and officer Greg &8220;Janet&8221; Jackson took first place.
&8220;I had a lot of fun doing this and it&8217;s good to help Relay for Life,&8221; Jackson said. &8220;I think it&8217;s great helping out in the fight against cancer and I&8217;ll be glad to help out in any way I can.&8221;
