Ferriday to stay focused Friday

Ferriday &8212; With a 6-1 record and a district championship within sight, Ferriday head coach James McFarland said there will be no letdowns over the final two games of the season for his Trojans.
The Trojans will welcome Lake Providence, who fell to Vidalia 46-14 last week for the Vikings&8217; homecoming, for their own homecoming festivities Friday night at 7 p.m.
The Panthers will enter the game with a 3-5 record overall, and 0-1 in district play. Ferriday is currently 1-0 in District 4-2A.
McFarland said there would be plenty to distract the team with homecoming this week and the rivalry match-up with Vidalia looming, but he was stressing to take a one-game-at-a-time approach.
&8220;Homecoming is always a big distraction,&8221; McFarland said. &8220;And with Vidalia in the back of our minds, it&8217;ll be tough. But we&8217;re not going to overlook anybody. It would be devastating to have a letdown like that to Lake Providence.&8221;
Another reason McFarland is concerned is the Panthers find themselves in a position he is familiar with.
&8220;They&8217;ve got nothing to lose, so they could come in here with anything offensively,&8221; he said. &8220;They like to throw the ball, but they could come in with all kinds of trick plays. We&8217;ve been there when your back&8217;s in the corner. You come out swinging, and that&8217;s what we&8217;re expecting out of them.&8221;
Vidalia at Madison Parish
The Vidalia Vikings (3-5, 1-0) snapped a three-game losing skid Friday night with a homecoming win over Lake Providence, and now will travel to face a struggling Madison Parish (2-6, 0-1) squad in their second district game of the season.
Vidalia head coach Dee Faircloth is expecting plenty of trouble out of Madison.
&8220;They&8217;re very athletic, just like the rest of the teams we play,&8221; he said. &8220;They&8217;ve lost some tough games to some good teams. They&8217;ve played Sterlington, Westlake, Richwood and a couple of other good ball clubs.&8221;
Faircloth said he was expecting an air attack.
Heading into the road affair, the Vikings are as healthy as they&8217;ve been in weeks, although still lacking Lance Moore and Seth Barlow, each of whom are out for the season.
Faircloth said the team seems to be coming together as the season nears its end.
&8220;I think (our mindset) is good right now,&8221; he said. &8220;I&8217;m hoping we can get off to a good start Friday. I was really pleased with the way our kids responded in the second half last week. Hopefully we can keep that intensity.&8221;
The Vikings will travel to meet Madison Parish in McCall Friday night at 7.
Block at Montgomery
The Block Bears (0-8, 0-3), who are currently being outscored by an average of 48-7 each game, will travel to Montgomery (4-4, 2-1) in search of its first win Friday.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
