NATCHEZ &8212; In a work session Monday night, the board of aldermen discussed proposals for riverfront development.

Out of three proposals they received, two looked &8220;competitive,&8221; City Attorney Everett Sanders said. Lane Company and the Natchez Riverfront Development Group looked promising, Sanders said.

&8220;I don&8217;t see a need to interview with Northbridge&8221; Capital in Edwardsville, Ill., he said. &8220;It doesn&8217;t appear as serious an effort on their part.&8221;

Alderman Bob Pollard said Lane and Natchez Riverfront proposed two different kinds of developments, but he did not elaborate.

Pollard said earlier in the day that Natchez Riverfront was actually based in Atlanta, from a company called Matrix 3D, who presented plans to the board in an executive session earlier this year.

Mayor Phillip West would not release information about what kind of projects the groups proposed or how much they might spend. West said he wanted to wait and issue a statement after the board had discussed the proposals.

The board then went into executive session to discuss the development proposals.

In other business, Alderman David Massey brought up the topic of road repair. He said he talked with City Engineer David Gardner and had a list ranking needed street repairs.

The streets addressed qualified for application for federal aid urban funds, Massey said.

He asked the aldermen to look at the streets in their wards and compare the ranked streets to what they thought was needed.

The budget was not discussed in the open work session. The budget, identical to last year&8217;s except for salary increases, was passed in September. The board has been reviewing proposed changes in past work sessions.
