Buckeye knocks off Green Wave

HARRISONBURG &8212; The Cathedral Green Wave, playing their second game of the day, found themselves slightly outmanned when they went up against Buckeye Saturday night.

The LHSAA 3A school took it to the Green Wave, taking a 66-36 win and the Harrisonburg Tournament championship.

Dylan Prestridge scored 26 points to lead Buckeye (9-4). Seth Webster pitched in 18.

Juan Gray led Cathedral (6-7) with 16 points on the night.

ACCS girls 56, Franklin Academy 24

ST. JOSEPH &8212; Katie Anne Swinny and Ariana DeLaSalle scored 13 points apiece as the Lady Rebels wiped the floor with Franklin Academy in the Tensas Shootout.

Laura Guedon pitched in 11 points for ACCS.

Emily Collins led Franklin with 10 points.

After a close first quarter, a 22-5 run in the second by ACCS eliminated any suspense.

Central Private girls 49, Huntington 42

FERRIDAY &8212; The Lady Hounds had their opportunities, but were unable to get over the hump in a loss to Central Private that dropped their record to 0-11 on the season.

The game was tied 35-35 with four minutes to go, but the Lady Rebels were able to hold on for a win.

Maggie Landry and Sonni Kirkwood led Central Private, scoring 15 and 14 points, respectively. Leslie Wagoner led Huntington with 12 points.

Columbia Academy girls 51, Trinity 50

JACKSON &8212; The Trinity Lady Saints suffered a close loss at the hands of Columbia Saturday afternoon at the Hillcrest Tournament.

Molly Butts scored 15 points for the Lady Saints, and Brandy Hall pitched in 10. Cara Joyner, 15, Lindsey Beard, 13, and Sarah Jackson, 10, all scored in double figures for Columbia.

Cathedral boys 59, Grace Christian 55

HARRISONBURG &8212; Juan Gray scored 22 and Andy Lucas scored 19 as the Green Wave held off a furious Grace Christian rally for the win.

Jeremy Fontenot led Grace Christian with 19 points.

With the win, the Green Wave advanced to the title game against Harrisonburg.
