STANTON — Memorial services for George Young Latham Jr., of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Stanton Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Purvis officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mr. Latham was born June 3, 1932, the son of George Young Latham Sr. and Florence Eugenia Nichols Latham Marsh. He was employed most of his life as a pipefitter with Local 681 by International Paper Company and its affiliate, Papco, working in mills in Natchez, Vicksburg, Mobile, Ala., Texarkana, Ark., Pine Bluff, Ark., Silver City, N.M., Ticonderoga, N.Y., and Cali, Columbia. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 aboard the USS Magoffin during the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas W. Latham Sr.; and stepfather, Darden Marsh.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Leona Ruth Fletcher Latham of Natchez; daughter, Karen Rebecca Latham O’Quinn Williams and husband, David, of Natchez; grandson, Ryan Daniel O’Quinn of Natchez; granddaughter, Madison Sage O’Quinn of Natchez; and sister, Jean Stowers of Washington; nephews, Ted Latham, Tom Latham Jr. and Benjy Stowers; and nieces, Linda Schiele and Sharon Wooley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stanton Baptist Church.
