RIDGELAND &8212; The St. Andrews Saints scored three goals in the first half as the defending Class 1A/2A/3A state champions in boys&8217; soccer defeated the Cathedral Green Wave 5-0 Monday night.

Yet despite the shutout loss which dropped them to 3-2-1, Green Wave head coach Rick Freeman said he was pleased with the team&8217;s effort against the Saints.

&8220;Overall, I was happy with their performance,&8221; Freeman said. &8220;We went toe to toe with them. We stayed in the midfield with them. They capitalized on our mistakes. They got through our defense and got by our goalkeeper on a couple of one-on-one situations.&8221;

&8220;Logan Foley was playing goalkeeper tonight. He did everything he could. Just some good plays by them,&8221; Freeman said. &8220;We put him in tonight to get some good training.&8221;

With the lineup change, Freeman played Jesse Morrison at the midfield position. Foley kept the score from being even more lopsided by making 14 saves.

RIDGELAND &8212; The Lady Green Wave had no chance against the Lady Saints, who rolled to an impressive win.

We were just looking for a learning experience, Lady Green Wave head coach David Gaud/ said. We learned some different defensive skills that we dont normally learn. I think that&8217;s going to do us some good in district play. It was a cold, cold night. We never gave up.
