Services for Elizabeth Lord, 90, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at the Magnolia House, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Faye Hudnall officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lord was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Grenada, the daughter of Edgar and Lennie Tribble of Grenada. After attending Grenada College, she married Earl Lord, of Holcomb, in 1936. During the first 11 years of their 67-year marriage, they lived in Greenville and Mobile, Ala. They moved to Natchez in 1947.

She was a devoted homemaker and mother of four. She worked part-time as a tour guide, a census taker, and a door-to-door Kirby vacuum cleaner saleswoman. Thirty years ago, upon Mr. Lord’s retirement from Johns-Mansville, they moved to “Lord’s Half Acre,” their home on Lake St. John, where they frequently entertained friends with barbecues, fish fries, and critter parties. Ten years ago, they moved back to Natchez.

For 56 years, Mrs. Lord was a member of Jefferson Street Methodist Church. While residing at Lake St. John, she regularly attended the Ferriday Presbyterian Church.
Following the death of her husband in 2002, she resided in the Magnolia House. Her youngest son, David, died in 1948 at the age of 5.

Her survivors include two sons, Lewis Lord and wife, Dee, of Falls Church, Va. and Mack Lord of Parma, Ohio; a daughter, Elaine Gemmell and husband, Michael, of Natchez; 11 grandchildren, Cathy Ghaffarian and Mark Lord, both of Madison, David Lord of Florence, John Lord of Charlotte, N.C., Charlie Lord of New York, N.Y., Dinah Lord of Washington D.C., Laurie Lord, Lisa Lord, and Amy Lord, all of Parma, Ohio, Matthew Gemmell of Glen Allen, Va., and Kate Gemmell of Atlanta, Ga.; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Jefferson Street Methodist Church Building Fund.
