Jefferson County boys, girls win at Woodville

WOODVILLE &8212; The Jefferson County Lady Tigers used a 19-point fourth quarter to hold off the Lady Wildcats of Wilkinson County Tuesday night for a 42-35 road win.

Veronica Miller scored 25 points to lead Jefferson County, and LaKeedra Ellis pitched in seven points.

LaTonia Anthony led the Lady Wildcats with 19 points in a losing effort, and Jasmine Ayers scored six.

The 19-point fourth quarter was the first quarter in which Jefferson County managed to score in double digits, but it was good enough to grab the win.

Wilkinson County had pulled to within two points at 23-21 heading into the final frame.

The Lady Tigers will next hit the hardwood Dec. 27, when they host the Jefferson County Tournament in Fayette.

WOODVILLE &8212; The Jefferson County Tigers came back from a 26-25 halftime deficit to take a 10-point road win over the Wilkinson County Wildcats Tuesday night.

After jumping out to a 14-8 first quarter lead, Wilkinson County controlled the second quarter to send the Wildcats into halftime with the lead.

The second half was a different story.

Joseph Kemp scored 22 points while Percy Turner pitched in 15 to lead Jefferson County. Four Tigers scored in double figures on the night.

Corey Anthony and Gary James led Wilkinson County, scoring 17 and 13 points, respectively.

The Wildcats will compete in the Amite County tournament beginning Thursday,

Jefferson County will not play again until Dec. 27, when the Jefferson County Tournament begins.
