Ruth Flinn

Services for Ruth Britton Dunbar Merrill Flinn, 80, of Natchez, who died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stratton Chapel at First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Flinn was born April 29, 1926, in Natchez, the daughter of Josephine Carolyn Stratton and Dunbar Surget Merrill.
She attended Hollins College in Virginia and graduated the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
She had a lifetime affiliation with the First Presbyterian Church of Natchez and was a member emeritus of the Pilgrimage Garden Club, having been involved in club activities from early youth.
She was a founding director of the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society and served as its treasurer for 23 years.
Mrs. Flinn will be sorely missed by her family and numerous cousins and friends, particularly her lifelong chums who called themselves the Garter Girls. She will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, love of animals and affection for her home town.
Mrs. Flinn was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 56 years, Forrest Derickson “Chip” Flinn.
Survivors include her three sons, Aaron Stanton Merrill Flinn, Forrest Byron Flinn and Joseph Buck Stratton Flinn and wife, Jeri Madden Flinn; grandsons, John Jeffrey Olson Flinn, Dunbar Merrill Madden Flinn and Derickson Stratton Flinn; close cousin and neighbor, Joess Trimble; and faithful canine, Spunky.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Natchez Adams Humane Society, P.O. Box 549, Natchez, MS 39121 or the First Presbyterian Church of Natchez.
