After a slow first half, Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels came up big in the fourth quarter to down rival Trinity Episcopal School 55-40 on the road Thursday night.
Buckets were few and far between in the first three minutes of game, but ACCS went on an 8-0 run and out scored the Lady Saints 12-5 to close out the first quarter.
Turnovers plagued both teams in the second quarter, but the score remained close. Molly Butts scored seven of the Lady Saints 13 second quarter points and Eliza Jones’ three point shot with two and a half minutes to play in the half cut the Lady Rebels lead to one, but the Lady Rebels closed out the half with a 21-18 lead.
At the start of the second half, ACCS picked up the pace of the game, and got hot from behind the arch. Katie Anne Swinny knocked down three shots from behind the arc, while the Lady Rebel defense limited the Lady Saints to five third quarter points to take a 39-23 lead into the fourth quarter.
ACCS used consistent scoring from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 55-40 win over the Lady Saints.
“We were slow in the first half,” said Lady Rebel head coach Chuck Bauearle. “In the second half we picked it up a little bit, made our shots and wore them down.
Bauearle said good defense was the key to winning the game for the Lady Rebels.
Trinity Episcopal head coach Melanie Hall said free throws were the difference maker as the Lady Saints went 6-19 from the charity stripe.
“If we would have put an effort into our free throws, this might have been a whole new ball game,” said Hall.
“We didn’t really flow. Sometimes we did good things while other times we did not,” she said. “Once we build some consistency we will be fine.”
The Lady Rebels were led in scoring by Swinny with 17 points, and she was backed by teammate Ariana DeLaSalle who chipped in 14 points.
Butts scored 13 points for the Lady Saints and was assisted by Jones with 12 points.
