Condo saga is dragging on far too long

And, once again, the plot thickens. Mimicking a dime-store novel&8217;s monotonous plot, the dispute over a future condo development on the Natchez bluffs has taken another turn.

In the latest chapter, a group of citizens has appealed a local judge&8217;s ruling that the city&8217;s sale of the former Natchez Pecan Factory site was, in fact, legal.

The Mississippi Supreme Court may now hear the case.

A central issue is whether or not the city should have sold the property at less than its appraised value, which is against the law.

The city, however, points to a different law it argues allows such sales if the public benefits of the sale more than justify the sale. In this case, the city believes the sale will spark economic development that will benefit city residents.

A local circuit judge mostly agreed with the city, setting up the climactic plot-bending showdown at the Mississippi Supreme Court.

At this point, the lingering, mind-numbing plot of the condo epic has wound on far too long. We wouldn&8217;t be surprised if the developers got cold feet soon.

Although the developers are not involved in the lawsuit, they&8217;ve been stuck with a project that&8217;s been sitting in neutral for months. The longer the project sits, the less likely it is to become a reality.

This is one book we&8217;ll be happy to close &8212; hopefully sooner than later.
