FERRIDAY &8212; The Concordia Parish Sheriff&8217;s Office continued its investigation Monday into the shooting deaths of two people who died Sunday morning in an apparent murder-suicide in Ferriday.

In a statement issued Monday, Sheriff Randy Maxwell said Cameron Michelle Morales, 27, and Baron Latron Burrell, 29 &8212; once a couple &8212; were both found shot to death in the apartment&8217;s dining room Sunday.

According to the statement, a Morales family member said the couple had been separated since January, when Morales left Burrell and returned to the Ferriday area. She rented an apartment for herself and their two children and had begun working at Ferriday Upper Elementary School. Burrell resided in Collinston, La.

Morales was shot twice in the head, and Burrell was shot one time in the temple. According to the statement, it is believed Burrell shot Morales and then immediately turned the gun on himself.

Their children were in the apartment at the time and escaped without injury. According to the statement, one of the juveniles may have witnessed her mother being shot.

The investigation is ongoing, and investigators will continue to question family, friends and neighbors of both Morales and Burrell, the statement read.
