&8220;She moved to Atlanta in 2004 to teach,&8221; Wallace said. &8220;She was pursuing a career as a math teacher.&8221;

Tobias graduated from Tougaloo College in Jackson and majored in economics. She was working on finishing her master&8217;s degree in Atlanta.

Wallace, who also lives in Atlanta, said she and Tobias grew up together.

Nelson was shot by police after he barricaded himself in his home Tuesday and refused to surrender to authorities when they tried to arrest him on charges of killing his friend Saturday, the Atlanta paper said.
