NATCHEZ &8212; Three Miss-Lou residents were killed in a plane crash at a Waco, Texas, airport Sunday night.

Natchez pilot Justin Cardneaux was flying Barr Brown and Jerry Roberts to a business meeting in Waco when the Cessna 310 Cardneaux was flying crashed. The plane was in flames when Waco firefighters arrived.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but authorities in the area said weather conditions were foggy.

The National Transportation Safety Board is handling the investigation and has not officially identified the three victims, Air Safety Investigator Leah Yeager said.

But investigators have said the plane was Waco bound from Natchez. The only matching flight plan at the Natchez-Adams County Airport is that of Cardneaux, Brown and Roberts.

Natchez Airport Manager Clint Pomeroy said the trio took off at 4:52 p.m.

The Waco Fire Department received the call of a crash just before 7:30 p.m., Fire Chief John Johnston said.

&8220;When they took off out of here, I think everything was normal and fine,&8221; Pomeroy said. &8220;Everything was considered normal.&8221;

Just before the scheduled landing Jerry Roberts called his wife Dianna saying they were about to land and he&8217;d call her again from the ground, Roberts&8217; stepfather James Cockerham said Monday.

&8220;He didn&8217;t call back,&8221; Cockerham said. &8220;So she started calling the motel room. We started looking other ways. We got in contact with regional FAA in Fort Worth and confirmed there was a plane down in Waco.

&8220;We pretty well knew then.&8221;

From that discovery, the other families got word, but no official confirmation came Monday.

NTSB crews will wrap up at the site &8212; a plowed field approximately two miles from the Waco Regional Airport runway &8212; today, Yeager said.

NTSB investigators will release a preliminary report next week and a factual report in six to eight months. Three months after that will come a final report.

&8220;We are about a year away from releasing any type of cause,&8221; Yeager said.

Yeager said the majority of the fuselage was burned, including the plane&8217;s tail number. The fire started after the crash, she said.

The Waco Fire Department&8217;s airport crew issued its highest warning level when the plane crashed, Johnston said.

&8220;Witnesses on the scene, two hunters, said they heard plane engines, like it was coming down for a landing,&8221; Johnston said. &8220;Then they heard a loud crash.&8221;

Natchez attorney Tim Blalock is listed as the administrator of the Cessna 310 at the Natchez-Adams airport, Pomeroy said.

The bodies have been transported to a medical examiners office in Dallas, Yeager said.

No word on funeral arrangements was available Monday.
