County needs to finalize ordinance

Adams County Supervisors are heading in the right direction in drafting a new ambulance ordinance.
Supervisors are considering changes to the county’s existing rotation system in which multiple companies have shared the responsibility for answering emergency response calls.
Under the draft law, the county may opt to sign an agreement with one company as the sole provider of emergency ambulance services.
We think that’s exactly what the county needs to do after leaders carefully consider the potential suitors and write an effective contract.
Having a single provider puts the responsibility in the hands of one company. No more handing off calls from one to another when one gets busy. Those hand-offs cost time and potentially lives, too.
If a problem or issue ever arises, no question will exist as to who is ultimately responsible.
County residents — including all the ones who live within the Natchez city limits and often forget they’re county residents, too — deserve the best emergency response care available.
Providing for the public safety is one of those essential tasks that we call on government to provide.
We applaud the change from the status quo that the supervisors are attempting to make by looking to what’s best in the future, not just what’s been good enough to this point.
Not only are supervisors heading in the right direction, they appear to have their bright lights on, too.
