Graveside services for Gerry P. “Granny” Strickland, 68, formerly of Vidalia, who died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at her home in Burleson, Texas, will be 2 p.m. today at the Greenwood Mausoleum.

Burial will follow under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home, Fort Worth, Texas.

Mrs. Strickland worked as a teacher’s aide in the Concordia Parish Schools and was a former employee of Big Star. She was a longtime employee of Otasco in Vidalia. She had a beautiful singing voice and was, at one time, choir director at Calvary Baptist Church and Vidalia Methodist Church in Vidalia.

She was known as “Granny” to scores of teenagers and young people in the Miss-Lou because she would take them under her wings and share her knowledge of life and of Jesus. She would call them her adopted children and each one was special to her. The list of names is numerous.

Survivors include her son, Derrick Strickland and wife, Debbie Burgess Strickland, of Burleson, Texas; grandson, Justin Strickland and wife, Sara, of Fort Bragg, N.C.; sister, Lonnie Parker Janszen and husband, Andrew, of San Antonio, Texas; and companion, Ronnie Owens and son, Jimmy Owens.
