VHS library waiting for furniture

The new Vidalia High School library building is ready for students — students who like to stand.
Construction crews who worked on the library/science lab combination for approximately a year are done, but the library furniture hasn’t arrived.
The shelves, chairs, desks and tables should arrive within in the next 30 days though, district Business Manager Tom O’Neal said.
“We’re furnishing the entire library and everything is going to be new,” he said. “That was the reason it took us a while to do it.”
The district had to receive measurements from an interior designer, then order the furniture. The holidays delayed the shipment, O’Neal said.
Furniture for the buildings’ two science classrooms and adjoining lab has already arrived but is not yet installed, O’Neal said.
Principal Rick Brown said the school will host a grand opening for the community when the building is fully furnished.
“I want to hurry up so my seniors can use it,” he said.
Upper level science classes, including chemistry, physics and Biology II, will meet in the new building.
The main high school building has science classroom space as well.
The construction of the addition was delayed several times, once due to the unavailability of steel due to Hurricane Katrina.
Original plans were to open the building prior to the start of this school year.
With a $37,000 bill for library furniture, the total project’s cost is $1,688,977.
