Law enforcement officers seized a backpack full of marijuana Wednesday.
Roughly two pounds of marijuana, totaling about $2,240 street value, were taken from a backpack found in an East Franklin Street business, Natchez-Adams County Metro Narcotics Cmdr. Cliff Cox said.
A Natchez police officer saw Thomas Rawlings, 28, 1210 Horseshoe Drive walk into the business with a backpack and walk out without it, Cox said. Rawlings was wanted on a warrant on charges of restraining order violation for domestic violence.
The officer called for backup and other NPD officers and Metro responded, Cox said.
Rawlings was arrested on charges of possession of schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute in a church zone, along with his previous charges. He was booked into the Natchez city jail.
“That’s a substantial amount of marijuana to be taken off the street,” Cox said.
Along with the roughly two pounds of marijuana in the backpack, officers found $482 in cash, two scales, packaging material and other assorted items, Cox said. Some of the marijuana had already been packaged in small plastic bags, he said.
