Services for Celia Johnson Monroe, 73, of Natchez, formerly of New Orleans, who died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Church of Jesus Christ God’s Son with Bishop Willie Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow at Milford Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Monroe was born April 22, 1933, in Adams County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Monroe Sr.; five brothers, Jack Johnson, David Johnson, McArthur Johnson, Percy Johnson, and Steve Johnson; sister, Katie J. Watkins; and her parents.
Survivors include her daughters, Lucille Jefferson and husband, Michael, Beulah Tobias and husband, James, Mary Williams and husband, Lawrence, all of New Orleans, and Zenati Jones and husband, Richard, of Natchez; son, Alonzo Monroe Jr. and wife, Rosa, of New Orleans; adopted daughter, Patricia Jones and husband, Samuel, of Natchez; brothers, Sylvester Johnson of Minnesota, Steve Johnson and wife, Bertha, of Natchez, Bishop Willie Johnson and wife, Ann, of Bude, Joe Johnson and wife, Regina, of Whiteapple; sisters, Pearline Rice, Flora Gooden, Elve Eve Reynolds and Matildy Johnson, all of Natchez, Alene Fitzgerald and Eloise Tucker and husband, Lee, both of Chicago, and Sarah Howard of New Orleans; sisters-in-law, Melissa Johnson and Doris Johnson, both of Chicago and Annett Marsaw of Hazlehurst; brothers-in-law, Pastor Samuel Watkins Sr. and wife, Pearlina, of Natchez and Louis Monroe and wife, Rosetta, of Milwaukee, Wisc.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and godchild, Branisha Spencer of New Orleans.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends of the family.
