Mass of Resurrection for Sister Teresa Joseph Licata, 80, Daughter of Charity, who died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Seton Residence, will be celebrated 11 a.m. today in Seton Chapel.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, in Evansville, under the direction of Ziemer Funeral Home Central.

Sister Teresa Joseph, “Mary Theresa,” was one of four children born to Joseph and Theresa Guido Licata on May 11, 1926, in Natchez. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, in Natchez, in 1945 and entered the Daughters of Charity in May 1956 at Marillac Provincial House in St. Louis.

Sister Teresa Joseph was a group mother in children’s homes during most of her ministry. She began her first assignment in 1958 as group mother for girls at St. Elizabeth’s Home in New Orleans. In 1961, she worked as a nursery school teacher at Guardian Angel Settlement in St. Louis, until her next assignment as group mother at the Marillac Home in Kansas City, Mo. (1962-1968.) During this time, Sister completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Marillac College in St. Louis in 1965.

She continued serving as group mother at St. Thomas Home in Birmingham, Ala. (1968-1970), and St. Mary’s Home in Mobile, Ala. (1970-1972.) In 1972, Sister Teresa Joseph moved to St. Vinvent’s Home in Saginaw, Mich., and worked with the younger boys.

From 1975-1978, Sister Teresa coordinated the recreation program for Sisters at Seton Manor in Evansville and was a Minister of Prayer. She continued in the ministry of prayer when she moved to Seton Residence in March 1991.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and two brothers.

Survivors include nieces, nephews, many friends and her Sisters in Community.
