Just in time for Valentine’s Day, life in the Miss-Lou produced some lovable news last week.

Let’s review some of the week’s good headlines:

– Due to a kink in the scheduling, Natchez is now home to commercial air package delivery. UPS needs to get their packages to Jackson faster, and the Natchez-Adams County Airport will benefit.

A UPS contractor will now make the Natchez to Jackson trip four days a week. The airport expects to refuel the plane several times a week.

– Just more than $27,000 in federal funds is coming to the needy in the Miss-Lou. The local chapter of the United Way received a grant to help those suffering from an “economic disaster.”

The United Way will be in charge of distributing the money to non-profits that distribute funds to individuals for mortgage payments, rent, utility bills or food.

– The City of Natchez is ready to begin the process of repairing one downtown street. The north end of Union Street will be the first street surveyed by the city engineer’s office. The hope is to fund work through Federal Aid Urban grant money from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Many of our downtown streets are in dire need of work, and it’s good to see city leaders looking for alternative sources to fund such projects.

With a week of red roses and balloons ahead of us, the middle of February is looking good.
