A gallant effort in the final 30 seconds by Ferriday in the final 30 seconds fell a little bit short as the Lake Providence Lady Panthers held on for a 53-52 win over the Lady Trojans Monday night.
A free throw by Lake Providence with 11 seconds left gave them the lead and the Lady Panthers played some tight defense to make sure that Ferriday could not attempt the final shot.
“It came down to the last second,” Lady Trojans head coach Lisa Abron said. “They were up by one. They inbounded the ball on our end and we had no one to stop them. We had plenty of opportunities to score.”
Tremaine Jackson led Lake Providence with 18 points while Tiffany Willis and Bianca McGowan had 10 points each.
Briana Foster scored 17 points to lead Ferriday. Jasmine Butler had 15 points and Jasmine Upchurch added 11 points.

TYLERTOWN — Julie Case, Ashley Montgomery and Hannah Knouse combined to score 50 points as the Lady Bears rolled to a 40-point win over the Lady Green Wave in the first round of the Region 7-1A Tournament at Salem.

Case led all scorers with 16 points while Montgomery added 13 points and Knouse chipped in with 11 points for West Lincoln, which will take on the winner of today’s Dexter-St. Aloysius game Thursday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals.
Columbia Academy girls 51, Centreville 46

Lindsey Beard led the Lady Cougars with 16 points. Amber Addington scored 15 points to lead the Lady Tigers.
With the win, Columbia Academy advanced to the second round. But it won’t get any easier for the Lady Cougars, the runners-up from District 6-AA, as they will take on District 4-AA champion Prairie View Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Centreville, on the other hand, saw its season come to an end. The Lady Tigers, the No. 4 seed out of District 5-AA, finished with an 8-17 record.
Columbia Academy outscored Centreville 14-9 in each of the first two quarters and appeared to have the game under control with its 10-point halftime lead.
Dexter boys 56, Cathedral 41
TYLERTOWN — Cathedral had more players in the scoring column than Dexter did, but the Bulldogs had four players score in double figures while the Green Wave had just one and that proved to be the difference.
Dexter, the No. 4 seed in the Region 7-1A Tournament, advanced to take on No. 1 seed West Lincoln in the semifinals Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Cathedral, the No 5 seed, finished its season with a 14-15 record.
The first half went back and forth between the two teams and by the time halftime arrived, the Green Wave had a 20-19 lead. But Dexter responded in the second half.
The Bulldogs outscored the Green Wave 17-8 in the third quarter and 20-13 in the fourth quarter. Their defense held Cathedral’s Juan Gray to just 11 points.

The key to Hazlehurst’s win was the play of Teirra Wilbert, Lateisha Pendleton and April Mitchell, who ended up with 15, 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Lady Indians advanced to the semifinals and will take on No. 1 seed Yazoo County Thursday at 4 p.m.
