Natchez Police arrested two men Thursday on charges of breaking windows of two vehicles during a string of vandalisms in early February.
Eugene R. Blanchard V, 19, turned himself in to police Thursday and was arrested on charges of two counts of malicious mischief. He was released on $1,318 bond.
Michael Travis Logan, 18, 1212 Horseshoe Drive, turned himself in to police at about 8 p.m. Thursday. He was also charged with two counts of malicious mischief.
Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said the vehicle windows the two men allegedly broke were destroyed the same nights as a string of other incidents.
Over about 48 hours, Feb. 7 and 8, the windows of two businesses and roughly 25 vehicle windows were broken. The damage was mostly centered downtown and in surrounding areas, according to police reports.
Mullins would not say whether or not Blanchard or Logan might have broken windows of any of the other vehicles or businesses.
“We are investigating and trying to develop evidence on the other instances of broken windows,” Mullins said.
Residents on Jefferson, North Union, North Pearl, Miller, Homochitto, Madison, Aldrich, Mansfield, State, North Wall, Washington and North Martin Luther King Streets all reported damages at the time.
The string of vandalism sfollowed a number of car burglaries, roughly 20 over two weeks. Mullins could not say at the time whether or not the burglaries and vandalisms were linked.
Some crime can be prevented if neighbors pay attention to their surroundings and report unusual events, he said at the time. If anyone hears or sees anything unusual, they should call the police department, he said.
