Adams County Christian School rung in the weekend and closed out their spring break in a big way by beating Amite School Center 15-3 at home Friday night.

ACCS (6-5) did most of its damage in the third inning, when the Rebels scored 11 runs, including four off a Luke Brumfield grand slam that sailed over the left-center field wall.

“The key for us tonight was us swinging the bats well,” ACCS head coach Ron Rushing said.

Along with Brumfield, several other Rebels had a good day at the plate against ASC (3-5). ACCS catcher Eric Perry was 4-4 at the plate, while first baseman Brian Sanderson and starting pitcher Dustin Carroll each went 2-3.

Amite School Center took an early lead in the top of the first inning when T.J. Hood scored on a throwing error, but ACCS bounced right back in the bottom of the inning. The Rebels gained the lead with one quick swing of Perry’s bat as he hit a home run over the left-center field wall to score Brumfield. From there, ACCS never looked back.

ASC scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to stay alive, but the Rebels ended the game early in the bottom of the same inning when Perry drove in two runs in to put ACCS up by 12 and invoke the mercy rule.

“We are playing well at the right time,” Rushing said. “Hopefully we will play like this against Porter’s Chapel.

Porter’s Chapel is currently ranked seventh in the state, and the Rebels will open up their district schedule on the road against the Eagles Tuesday at 6 p.m.

With the win, the Rebels improved to one game over .500.
