Pilgrimage leads good news

Detecting Spring Pilgrimage in Natchez is easy. Just look for a full load of horse carriages lining Canal Street ready and waiting for tourists. Cars go the wrong way on the one ways. And, once again, a riverboat docks at Natchez Under-the-Hill.
The presence of the riverboat was good news for Natchez this week.
The 400-room American Queen suspended its travel after Hurricane Katrina, leaving Natchez without the extra tourists.
But that wasn’t the only good news of last week. Let’s review some other good stories.
4Many of the candidates vying for positions to lead our county gathered for a forum Thursday night.
The large crowd in attendance had a chance to hear a little more about each candidate. We are glad the Adams County Federation of Democratic Women and the Democratic Executive Committee organized such and event.
4Two Natchez residents gave a $50,000 donation to the city for interior work at the Margaret Martin Performing Arts Center.
Hedy Bolte and Jennifer Ogden are organizing a new arts council in town and want to see the building transformed into arts space. The donation has spurred city leaders to talk about what they can do for the building, as well.
This type of grass roots effort is exactly what our city needs to see needed renovations.
Let’s hope the second week of Pilgrimage is as good as the first.
