Coming off an embarrassing 11-1 loss at McComb last Saturday, Natchez High head coach Charlie Williams was hoping for a much different outcome at Jim Hill.
In their first Division 6-5A game in two weeks, the Bulldogs got over the McComb loss by routing the Jim Hill Tigers 17-6 in just five innings to improve to 3-0 in division play.
And the Bulldogs did it with a combination of solid pitching and timely hitting. Cameron Logan picked up the win as he gave up just four hits.
On offense, Natchez High did get off to a slow start and actually trailed Jim Hill 3-1 after two innings. But a three-run rally in the top of the third inning gave the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead and they would never trail again.
The Bulldogs then put the game completely out of reach by scoring 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning for a commanding 14-3 lead. The Tigers kept the game going by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bulldogs got those runs back in the top of the fifth. Jim Hill wasn’t able to extend the game as it was held scoreless in the bottom of the fifth.
Marcus Hargrave led a 14-hit attack for Natchez High (9-6) with a double and four RBIs and Melvin Davis went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Johnny Williams and Kelli Puckett each drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.
