Don’t look now, but Franklin County is on a roll.
The Bulldogs extended their winning streak to 10 games by first defeating Brookhaven 8-7 in Meadville and then upsetting Lawrence County 6-5 on the road Saturday night.
In the first game, which wasn’t even on Franklin County’s schedule before the season started, the Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead. That lead would be short lived as the Panthers rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh for a 7-6 lead. However, the Bulldogs would not be denied as they scored won the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Franklin County ended up with 18 hits in the game and was led by winning pitcher Ryan Ratcliff, who was 4-for-4, and Cable McMinn, who went 3-for-4 with a double.
The Bulldogs then traveled to Monticello to take on the Cougars, ranked No. 12 in the entire state in the latest Clarion-Ledger MHSAA Top 15 poll.
While Franklin County (13-6) didn’t need any last-inning dramatics to win the game, it did have to rally from a 5-2 deficit after three innings of play by scoring two runs in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth.
Winning pitcher Colton Laird got plenty of help from Franklin County’s bats as the Bulldogs pounded out 10 hits. They were led by McMinn, who went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, and Ryan Tutor, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
