It’s playoff time in MHSAA baseball, and the Cathedral Green Wave get to start their quest for a title with home field advantage.
The Green Wave will host the Region 7-1A Tournament beginning today at Chester Willis Field.
The Green Wave will hit the field at 7 tonight against West Lincoln, who lost a tiebreaker game Wednesday night to Enterprise.
St. Aloysius and Enterprise will open up today’s action at 4:30 p.m.
The Green Wave won the district with a 9-0 mark, including two victories over hated rival St. Al.
Head coach Craig Beesley said he feels it’s difficult to beat a good team three or four times in one season.
“You never know after you’ve beaten somebody twice,” Beesley said. “You hate to have to beat somebody three or four times in one year. You just figure the odds will catch up with you at some point. We’ve played good through the season and hopefully we can keep it up this weekend.”
The losers of today’s games will meet at 2 p.m. Friday, while the winners will meet at 4:30. The winner of Friday’s first game will face the loser of the second game at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s slate of games is to be determined due to ACT testing scheduled for Saturday.
Beesley said his team would need more pitching to get through the region tournament unscathed.
“We’re going to have to have a third pitcher step up for us,” he said. “We’ve relied on Preston (Edwards) and Patrick (McDonough) the whole season. We’re going to have to have three or four pitchers to make it through (the tournament).”
