Homer Sturgis

Services for Homer Jamelle Sturgis, 81, of Clayton, who died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital, in Alexandria, will be 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Revs. Dennis Braswell and Mack Walker officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Sturgis was born May 5, 1925, in Clayton, the son of James Gayle Sturgis and Decie Mae Crum Sturgis. He was retired from International Paper Company after 30 years of service. Mr. Sturgis was a member of the Quarter Century Club and the National Rifleman Association.

He was preceded in death by parents; a son, James Jamelle Sturgis; and brothers, Clayton Spillman and James W. Sturgis.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Annie Mae Garland Sturgis of Clayton; children, Doris McDaniel of San Bernardino, Calif., Ginger Dale Sturgis Bolyer of Ferriday and David C. Ola of Waterproof; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leland Sturgis of Natchez; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Howard Young, Will White, Jim Boren, Mat Mulvihill, Buck Andrews, Eddie Bolyer, Otis Byrnes, Ritchey Netherland, Brandon Butts, and Jay Sturgis.
