Services for Richard Dean Smith, 76, of Monterey, who died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at his residence, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Eva Church of God with the Revs. Kevin Simms and Gordon Finley officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home, Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Smith was born June 9, 1930, in Martin, Tenn., the son of Bonnie McCoy Smith and Ruth Bradberry Smith. Retiring after 33 years as an auto worker from Ford Motor Company, in Detroit, he moved back to Tennessee and then on to Louisiana, his final resting place. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the U. S. Army as PFC. He was a member of the Eva Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Betty June Steele Smith of Monterey; son, Samuel Wactor and wife, Linda, of Rhinehart, La.; daughter, Sherry Jackson and husband, Donald, of Taylor, Mich.; brother, Paul Hayes Smith and wife, Berthalou, of Martin, Tenn.; five grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; niece, Paula Smith Stoer of Florida; great-niece, Jenna Stoer; great-nephew, Ben Stoer; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Steele, Samuel Wactor, Don Jackson, Terry Dildy, Mark Smith, and Bill Brawner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Hayes Smith and Dane Paul.
Memorials may be made to Eva Church of God Building Fund.
