ACCS repeats win over Trinity

It was déj vu all over again for the Trinity Lady Saints and the ACCS Lady Rebels.
Back on March 30, Trinity jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, only to have ACCS rally for six runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 15-3 win in three and a half innings.
On Tuesday afternoon at the ACCS softball field, the exact thing happened with the exception of the final score. Trinity scored two runs in the top of the first, then ACCS scored six runs in the bottom of the first as the Lady Rebels defeated the Lady Saints 16-2 in, once again, three and a half innings.
“On several different occasions when teams jumped on us early, we’ve had an answer to their runs scored against us,” Lady Rebels head coach Rick Fife said.
With one out in the top of the first, Olivia Walden reached on an error and Sarah Brumfield singled. Then Katie Steele walked and with two outs Malori Byrd singled to bring in Walden and Brumfield.
ACCS (6-9) took advantage of a fielder’s choice and five straight walks by Trinity starting pitcher Brandy Hall to score three runs. Then Brittany Smith hit a long fly ball to right field that brought in three runs.
After getting off to a rough start in the first inning, ACCS pitcher Ariana DeLaSalle settled down and pitched three scoreless innings in which she allowed just two more hits. Offensively, the Lady Rebels kept the pressure on the Lady Saints. They added to their lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. Sara Beth Fuller, who went 2-for-3, singled, Jessica Porter reached on a fielder’s choice, Alex Foster singled in two runs and later scored to give them a 9-2 lead.
“I though we came out hitting better than we did last weekend at the Amite (School Center) Tournament,” Fife said. “We got some key hits in key situations.”
In the bottom of the third, Danielle Yelverton walked and Megan Cole reached on a fielder’s choice. After another walk loaded the bases, Porter hit a three-run triple. Foster singled in Porter to give the Lady Rebels a 13-2 lead.
ACCS added three more runs in their half of the third on a single by DeLaSalle, a walk by Kristen Rymer and a single by Brittany Jackson.
