NATCHEZ — Services for Sylvester Johnson Sr., 83, of Minneapolis, who died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Memorial Veterans Home, in Minneapolis, will be noon Saturday at Daughters of Zion Baptist Church with Bishop Willie Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow at Williams Family Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Johnson was born April 14, 1924, in Jefferson County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mazie Logan Johnson; a daughter, Edith; a son, Rochelle; five brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include his daughters, Glynn Johnson, Jean Lewis and husband, Robert, Edith Yarbrough-Johnson and husband, Fred, all of Minnesota, Ida Montgomery and husband, Wayne, Brigitte Johnson, and Jennifer Johnson, all of Texas; sons, Curtis Jones and wife, Sarah, Sylvester Johnson Jr. and wife, Lavonia, and Conrad Johnson and wife, Lisa, all of Natchez, Lacy Johnson and wife, Betty, both of Minnesota; brothers, Willie Johnson and wife, Ann, Joe Johnson and wife, Regina, and Steve Johnson and wife, Bertha, all of Mississippi; sisters, Pearline Rice, Flora Gooden, Elve Reynolds, Matildy Johnson, Pearl Harris and Clara Randall, all of Mississippi, Arlene Fitzgerald, Eloise Tucker and husband, Lee, all of Illinois, and Sarah Howard of Louisiana; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
